Rwanja Residents Sound Alarm Over Spike in Theft Cases

By Amanya Amos

MITOOMA  UGANDA    Residents of Rwanja Parish, Rurehe Sub-county in Mitooma District, have raised concerns about a rising wave of theft affecting their community. The villages of Ihunga, Omumihambo, and Mushunga are the most impacted, with livestock, bananas, coffee, and household items being the primary targets of the thieves.

Annet Kobusingye, a resident of Rwanja, expressed frustration over the situation, blaming some parents for failing to instill good morals in their children. She called on the government to intervene and help curb the theft problem.

Paul Kansiime, a resident of Omumihambo, added that the thieves are often people from within their own communities. He urged government officials to address the issue urgently to ease the difficult situation residents are facing.

Rurehe Sub-county LC3 Chairperson, Muhimbo Evelyn, acknowledged that theft cases have been persistent. She noted that while suspects are usually apprehended and penalized, some complainants abandon their cases at the police or court level, leading to suspects being released and encouraging further theft. Evelyn urged residents, especially complainants, to follow through with reported cases to ensure prosecution and help reduce theft in Rurehe Sub-county.
